Calling Jamestown NY Home
With a population of 32,000, Jamestown is the largest city in the Lake Chatauqua region. Amenities include an airport, hospital, community college and business college and cultural attractions include: the Roger Tory Peterson Institute of Natural History, Fenton Museum of History and the Jamestown Audubon Nature Center. Jamestown is also proud to be the birthplace of comedienne Lucille Ball and home of the Lucy-Desi Museum.Founded in 1810 and now pushing two hundred years old, the city of Jamestown has plenty of American history to offer. Much of Jamestown's heritage is rooted in manufacturing and the industrial revolution. The town's first dam and sawmill was built in 1811 and by the mid-1800s, Jamestown had become the "Furniture Capital of the World." Though the economy in modern Jamestown relies very little on manufacturing and factory production, over the years the city has been known for its mass production of a variety of products including but not limited to: mattresses, glass, towels, pails, worsted, woolens and ice cream.
